I love knowledge as it gives me the power to make quality decisions about my life. I was listening to self-improvement guru Anthony Robbins, and he shared some valuable weight loss information with me. He suggests that if you want to control your weight effectively, you should eat foods that contain lots of water.
Given that Tony has really got his life together, I thought that his statement warranted some research.
Eating food with high water content benefits you in 2 ways
Firstly, they are mostly low calorie foods, and they supply you with water. This is fantastic news if you struggle to drink the recommended 2 liters of water each day.
*Disclaimer: Eating high water content foods don’t preclude you from drinking water.
If you include these foods into your diet, you will be satiated and less likely to snack on empty calorie foods such as cookies, crisps, pastries and the like. (Here’s what you should be snacking on instead)
Delicious high water content foods
Most fruits are composed mainly of water: Watermelon is 92 % water. A pear contains 84 % water, and a banana is 74% water. If you want to eat fruits that are 90% or more water, grab some strawberries, grapefruit or cantaloupe when next you are at the greengrocers. All of these fruits are low calorie and high in minerals, vitamins and fiber. Fiber is helpful as it keeps you satiated for longer.
You can access a range of vegetables that contain at least 90% water. Radishes, iceberg lettuce and celery all contain at least 95% water. Eggplant, spinach, zucchini and tomatoes are other foods that contain more than 90% water. (Note, tomatoes are actually fruit). Again, these foods are high in vitamins, minerals and fiber, just like their cousins, fruit. These vegetables and fruit(tomatoes) contain fewer calories than the above-mentioned fruits.
Even fish, poultry and meat have their fair share of water: Extra lean ground beef is 63 % water. Chicken is 69% and flounder is 79% water. Look to eggs, as well as they contain 75% water. This is great news for me as I love these foods.
Enjoy low-fat yogurt as it contains 89% water: Vanilla ice cream contains 61 % water, but watch out for the calories. Other favorite foods sources of water include soups.
So there you have it, some great options for you to increase your water intake. Another bonus is that many of these foods are more cost-effective than buying pre packaged foods which are riddled with preservatives and other undesirable compounds.
I really appreciate you stopping by and would love to hear what your favorite water containing food is. I would love it even better if you would share this information with your friends using the sharing tools available.
