Medical reasons cause weight gain
Losing weight can be hard for some people. Some people have faster metabolisms while others have slower metabolisms. Just because some people lose weight rapidly on a new fad diet, does not mean you will too.
For that reason it is important not to have unrealistic expectations, but rather be cautiously optimistic when starting a new program, using the 4 Steps to Weight loss Manifestation.
After doing everything trying to lose weight, most people start to consider medical reasons to which they can attribute their weight gain. Yes, some people have medical reasons that cause them to gain weight and that makes it hard for them to lose weight.
Some studies have shown that about 25% of people who go to doctors struggle with weight loss because of medical conditions and medications they are taking. There is also speculation that it is a highly over-diagnosed condition and that the figure is much lower (more on that later).
Let’s have a look at some of the medical reasons why some people gain weight or struggle to lose weight.
Chronic stress is worth mentioning on its own because a huge percentage of people struggle with stress daily and this produces excess cortisol, a hormone which causes people to gain weight, particularly around their hips and thighs.
Telling people to stop stressing is difficult. However, much stress can in fact be attributed the weight issues to start with. When you feel overweight, you might be concerned about the costs of obesity, fidelity in your relationship, the stress of becoming more overweight and the stress of trying to lose weight. This all snowballs into an even bigger weight and self-esteem stress.
It may be an idea to simply do what you need to in order to lose weight and simply remove the stress
The stress often tends to be bigger than the actual problem and harder than the solution.
Other conditions that could be causing your weight to spiral upwards may include Cushing’s Syndrome, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Hypothyroidism, Insulin Resistance and hormone changes in women.
Many medications are also known to cause weight gain
The list includes contraceptives, corticosteroids (for asthma, lupus), antiepileptics, antidepressants (particularly trazodone, imipramine and amitriptyline), beta-blockers (blood pressure medications), antipsychotics and some medications used to treat type 2 diabetes.
If you are taking any of these medications, it might be an idea to speak to your doctor to help you find an alternative medication which will have a reduced effect on your weight loss. Many symptoms of the conditions above can also be managed naturally in a much healthier manner using natural remedies, therapies and treatments.
Once you have gone through a battery of tests and the doctor has not found anything wrong – where do you turn?
A minute percentage of people have inexplicable reasons for gaining weight. An even smaller percentage of people have a proven medical condition which is causing the weight issue.
Most of it is a combination of several factors:
- Depression – depression is fattening.
- Wrong mindset towards weight loss – thinking that it is hard work and not being prepared to do what it takes.
- Lack of discipline – not realizing that it takes time to gain weight and even longer to lose it.
- Wrong eating habits - eating the wrong foods at the wrong times or eating too much.
- Slow metabolism - the body burns weight slower than it is consumed.
- Lack of exercise – this helps with many aspects of weight gain, metabolism and depression.
The good news is that this is easy to solve these mysterious issues causing weight gain
The stress caused by being overweight can be solved by simply getting into the right mindset and doing what is required to lose weight.
Here is a great interview with a woman who could not lose weight the way she has been trying to do it.
While it is hard to face these facts, you should consider what is more important:
To be right about the fact that you can’t lose weight for some inexplicable reason
OR
To be victorious in accepting responsibility for your role in why you have become overweight and start changing things to help you lose weight.
No matter what happened in the past – you can change old mindsets and old habits and develop new, beneficial changes that will benefit you forever.
