 Science is starting to make significant noise about the benefits of protein to lose weight

It has been revealed that people are better able to curb their hunger with protein than with carbohydrates. An article was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, and it was revealed that people were less hungry when they reduced their fat intake by about 20%. These same people increased their protein intake to 30% and made sure that carbohydrates did not account for more than 50% of their diet.

Studies have revealed that protein does help people to lose weight faster

Members of the study group who increased their protein intake all reported that their hunger was satisfied, and they were losing weight faster. By eating a higher protein diet, they managed to consume 441 calories less each day. Further studies revealed that people combined exercise with this change in diet improved their blood fat levels.
Scientists are not sure how this works. However, it does curb appetites. It is possible that the brain is sent less appetite stimulating hormones due to the increased protein in the diet. It might even be that fewer carbohydrates contribute towards this hunger satisfaction.

It is accepted that adults need a diet that consists of about 35% of total calories consumed to be protein. Adults who consume 1800 calories should eat a minimum of 45 grams and a maximum of 218 grams of protein each day. In reality, most people will struggle to consume the high end amount of protein each day.

People who want to lose weight and manage cravings should eat 5-6 smaller meals each day. This way, their appetites are better controlled, and they lose weight far quicker. We all know that lean red meat, chicken and fish are good sources of protein. Eggs, cheese, yogurt and milk are other quality sources of protein.

Not all types of protein are equal when it comes to losing weight

It should be kept in mind that not all sources of protein are equal when it comes to losing weight. Some of the above sources include animal fats and too much of this can be a bad thing.
