Have you ever heard someone (or even yourself) blame faulty genes for being overweight? Today I will be telling you that while there is some scientific merit to the fact that it is a major influence, it is really a minor problem.
As we grow up, we are influenced by the adults around us. We notice their language, their attitude and their behavior towards food and weight, and this shapes our own future experience. It can lead to yo-yo dieting, eating disorders, obesity, poor self-esteem, and even depression.
The bad news is that we all have some self-defeating thoughts that are hampering our weigh loss efforts.
The good news is that we can change our relationship with our bodies and we can lose weight easily.
Here are some ways to change your thoughts so that you can lose weight effectively and permanently.
Permanent Weight Loss Tip 1: Stop Labeling Yourself
How do you describe yourself?
Since you know yourself better than a person whom you just met, he or she will believe you when you describe yourself. Your body is very similar to a stranger, in the sense that it listens to you. There have been studies that proved how a thought can affect the physiology of atoms of energy.
If you tell yourself that you are fat, lazy, ugly or a failure – that will be your experience. These definitions obliterate your determination and self-confidence, which you need in order to lose weight permanently.
TIP: Every day, find something you like about yourself. Tell yourself how proud you are of you for every success.
Permanent Weight Loss Tip 2: Stop Self Pity
When you go on a strict diet, it is common to feel deprived. It is even worse when you have to watch other people eat delicious foods and your favorite snacks while you have to eat rabbit food.
At this point, your internal dialogue will start to tell you that you don’t have the self-control and discipline to do what it takes to lose weight. You will start to obsess about your faults and short-comings. This is a sure recipe for failure and ultimately depression.
Some people try to find the solution to weight loss in by searching for medical conditions that stop them from losing weight. Could you have a incurable medical conditions that stops you from losing weight?
TIP: Stay away from fad diets and strict eating plans that become boring, make you feel deprived and lack nutrition. Nutrition is the key to reducing cravings and successful long-term weight loss.
Permanent Weight Loss Tip 3: Stop Setting Unrealistic Goals
Many of us want to lose weight as soon as possible and end up looking like super-toned skinny celebrities. We don’t consider the fact that even celebrities in real life don’t look like they do on screen or in magazines.
I am not saying that some of them don’t look really good, but it requires a lot of work that many of them wish they don’t have to do. It takes daily 3-hour sessions in the gym, eating baby-food or going to spas for regular colonic cleansing and other unpleasant treatments. Most people cannot live this type of life realistically.
By imposing extreme and unrealistic goals on yourself, you set yourself up for disappointment and disaster.
TIP: Set realistic goals for attainable time-frames. Losing weight too quickly is unhealthy and hard to keep off. Healthy permanent weight loss is a lifestyle change that comes from discipline. This does not mean that you have to eat diet foods for the rest of your life, but rather eating sensibly most of the time, while still enjoying some of your favorite foods some of the time.
Permanent Weight Loss Tip 4: Stop Dramatizing
When you don’t lose as much weight as you want as fast as you want to, how do you feel? Many people fall apart when they don’t see the results they had hoped to see. They see simple events as big, life-changing issues when it is really ordinary. It feels as though they are under a magnifying glass and every comment, every pound not lost, every mistake or slip-up is the worst thing that ever occurred.
I think if we knew how little people really knew about our daily struggles, we’d be free from so much self-depreciation that we will be able to achieve our every goal. We tend to care more about what other people think of us than about living our lives for us.
TIP: Relax. The road to success is not straight in life or with weight loss. Women’s weight fluctuates throughout the month according to their menstrual cycles. Take the ups and downs in your stride while you focus on your achievements and celebrate your lifestyle changes that will have long-term health results and enable you to lose weight permanently.
By getting rid of negative mindsets and influences, you open yourself up to healthy permanent weight loss. It can be as difficult or as easy as you want it to be, based on the thoughts that are foremost in your mind. Click here to learn the four steps to manifesting weight loss today.

Hello Wade,
You have written a very interesting article about the emotional side of healthy weight loss. I agree that spending 3 hours in a gym each day would be too much for most of us. I found a way to fatigue the muscles in just 7 minutes a day.
Your blog has many interesting posts about many different health topics. I liked your blog in Networked Blogs. See you soon!

Hi Danielle
Now you have piqued my interest! How do you fatigue the muscles in 7 minutes?
Look forward to seeing you again soon!
Tip : Set Goals
How much weight do you want to get rid of? A couple of pounds? Twenty pound? More? Less? So many people say they want to get rid of some weight – define some weight – is it a pound? Ten pounds?
If you do not set weight goals then you are not going to know where you are heading. Decide exactly how much weight you want to get rid of and when you want to get rid of it by. Set yourself milestones and goals – and make sure they are achievable.
Tip : Don’t mix carbs and protein
Mixing carbs and protein can affect your digestion and impact your weight loss goals. Try to ensure your meals are balanced – eat protein one meal, carbs the next, but avoid the two together. You’ll notice a big difference in how you feel.
Hello Brad
Thanks so much for this comment. The jury is out on carbs and protein and the best is a balance. Few people are able to stick to a “diet” that excludes certain food groups or types. However, if you can balance it perfectly, you will consume fewer calories and thus lose weight. The most important aspect though, is to get enough nutrients in your diet through low-calorie foods.
I look forward to seeing you around more frequently.
