It is all good and well to do something about your weight, but what about your mental state?

Let’s face it, while moms gladly do anything for their families, they are human beings and they too have needs and wants. Most often this is in the form of some “me” time. Ask any mom how much “me” time she gets and the chances are, she’ll say “very little.”

The trouble with this is that at a subconscious level, this can cause illness to manifest.

Some overweight moms believe that if they lose weight, everything will be alright. They will be happy and be able to better tend to their families. This is not always a good strategy as the root cause of the unhappiness has not been dealt with. Namely, discontent at having no time for themselves.

This unhappiness can actually cause them to become ill. It is a known fact that healthy bodies will respond to a weight loss program better than unhealthy bodies.

If you are in a similar scenario to the one described here, there are a few steps you can take to change your life and make sure that you do, in fact, lose weight.

List the areas of discontent in your life

Firstly, you should identify the areas in your life that you are not happy with. Some examples of this include:

1) Feeling overworked and unappreciated.

2) Having problems with your spouse.

3) Having problems with one or more of your in-laws.

4) Being overweight.

5) Not enough “me” time.

6) Constant strife in the home.

You may have other issues, however, I am sure that you get the point. You should then speak to whomever is involved in this source of discontent for you. If your children are not pulling their weight, then chat to them and explain that in order for you to be the best mom that you can be, you need them to get their act together.  Likewise, if your spouse or in-laws are a problem, explain to them that you want to be the best wife/ daughter-in-law.

Be frank and open so that they can see that you are serious about this.If everyone is prepared to make small changes, you will be amazed at how your attitude and health will improve.

Only once you truly feel at peace with yourself are you ready to begin your weight loss program. Failing to do so, will only add extra stress to your already overwhelmed life.
