If you are anything like me, you like your comfort food and diet food not too much. In order to have your cake (and eat it) – I thought I’d share some of my tricks to make meals higher protein and lower fat and cut the carbs and sugar just a little bit.

Chickpeas are also a healthy and tasty replacement for bread on the side of salad or croutons inside a salad (yes, I know it’s nice, but try this – I promise you will feel so much better!). Alternatively, you could try making a delicious chickpea casserole (I better post my recipe!). Or mash them with some sesame paste for a delicious spread on low-GI crackers.
I don’t enjoy fruit too much, but I love sweets. However, I don’t feel too good physically after eating sweets. My solution? Raisins and fruit lollies – and lately I have been HOOKED! Yes, they are sugar laden – but I only manage to eat a handful of raisins and 1-2 of the fruit lollies before having to have the bag forcibly removed. It is so sweet, but it is too nice to stop… And it’s a little healthier than chocolates and candies.
Some of my friends are coffee addicts. They literally can’t function without it. Although some don’t add sugar and milk (which is good from a weight loss perspective), the caffeine is not good. Basically, apart from the short-lived energized feeling it gives you – there is no other benefit.
