A protein-rich breakfast keeps you full all day long….
We all know that skipping breakfast is bad because we won’t have enough energy for the day and that our bodies will store fat if we don’t feed them. While these facts are both true, there is an even greater reason why skipping breakfast is dangerous if we want to be slim, focused, energized and healthy.
Skipping Breakfast Causes You to Crave the Wrong Foods Later in the day
Research has revealed that missing breakfast will cause you to make bad food choices later in the day. Even worse, you are likely to eat more to catch up for what you did not eat at breakfast.
Eating breakfast will Prevent Binge-Eating
Getting back to the study; 21 subjects were used to study the effects on the brain when the subjects had breakfast and when they did not have breakfast. One day, the subjects were not given breakfast and the next day they were fed a breakfast consisting of close to 800 calories.
When the subjects did not eat breakfast, their brain scans revealed that orbito frontal cortex became much more active. This part of the brain is believed to associated with food appeal. The scientists concluded that skipping breakfast certainly made the subjects hungrier by lunchtime than when they did eat breakfast. It was deduced that skipping breakfast would make it hard to lose weight due to the body craving all the wrong foods.
We have tested this in our own home and find the findings to be true. I find that I crave pastries, sweets and all the wrong types of junk when I skip breakfast.
Conversely, when I have a protein laden breakfast, I can just about go the whole day without having to eat anything (not that you should ever skip meals). The bottom line is that eating a healthy breakfast will set you up to last until lunchtime when you can refuel your body with all the right ingredients to enjoy a productive day.
